We REVIEW 10 Stories of Collective Housing from a+t

  • Australian architect Ross Langdon and his wife Elif Yavuz among those killed in Nairobi. From the Guardian: “Langdon was a founding director of the prize-winning architecture firm Regional Associates, which has offices in London and Melbourne. He grew up in Tasmania and worked on projects around the world, including in Uganda and Rwanda. In 2010 Langdon received the University of Sydney's young alumni award in recognition of his pursuit of excellence in the field of architecture on projects across Australia, Europe and Africa.”
  • Peter Wilson Gold Medal Lecture (AS Hook Address) – Partner of Munster-based practice Bolles and Wilson, with Julia Bolles. October 16, book now.
  • More Fisherman’s Bend: The ABC’s 7.30 did a segment last week, including an interview with Matthew Guy, who is defending developer contributions and community infrastructure. More good sense here, and credit where it’s due. How to pay for it up front remains the big question however.
  • Back MakeSpace! Kickstarter for a co-working space in Brooklyn by our friends Bryan Boyer and Rena Tom. Why kickstart a space in Brooklyn? Because it’s a good idea, and one day you’ll be in that city looking for a desk. Plus, some great rewards.
  • Design Education Conference is next week here in Melbourne - Ulf hackauf from Mvrdv's think tank the why factory will be giving a free lecture on Thursday night at Monash. Tom wiscombe from LA will be giving a free lecture at melb uni on Friday night, but you have to register. Practitioners and students get a discount rate to the conference.
  • Dan Hill public lecture, Wednesday, 25 September, 6:00 to 8:00pm, RMIT Design Hub, Level 3 Lecture Theatre, Cnr Swanston & Victoria Street, Carlton, free but bookings are essential -
