Melbourne writer Alice Pung's debut Unpolished Gem was this month's featured book on 3RRR's The Grapevine. To discuss this memoir of life growing up the daughter of Cambodian refugees in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, Kulja and Donna were joined by Josh Earl, writer and comedian and Paula Kelly from the State Library of Victoria. Pung's book is one of 6 listed for the National Year of Reading recommended books for Victoria. Next month, we read Steven Amsterdam's What the family needed. |

Bill Callahan's novelette "Letters to Emma Bowlcut" was the subject of spirited bookclub discussion between Donna Morabito, Kulja Coulston, Mic Looby and special guest musician Damon Smith. It is a strangley compelling book (emphasis on strage) where we are privvy to only half the letters exchange between the un-named protagonist and Emma Bowlcut. It is both insightful and hilarious. |

Alex Miller's latest offering "Lovesong" just won the Age book of the Year Award. Kulja Coulston, Josh Earl and Paula Kelly convene for October's bookclub. It's certainly not a simple love story, but when is love simple anyway? Without giving away the twist in this novel, we read from the book, and discuss its central themes. It's fair to say we each LOVED it, a big thumbs up, and recommended reading for your own bookclub. |

Peggy Frew (Art of Fighting, Victorian Premier's Literary Award shortlist), Josh Earl (Lime Champions) join Donna and Kulja for this month's On Air Bookclub. Instead of discussing one book, this month each brought in what we are reading at home.
