It's Pathology Week and in this episode Dr Shane, Dr Krystal, Dr Adam and Dr Melissa are joined by Ray Dauer from the Haematology Laboratory Austin Pathology (Austin Hospital) and a policy officer in the Screening and Cancer Prevention unit at the Department of Health, Anne Johnstone. In addition to the week's science news, the focus of this show is a discussion about the importance and applications of pathology from day to day health care and research to the current crisis in New Zealand. Following on from last week's interview regarding the Asian Honey Bee, we spoke to Greens Senator Christine Milne about the recent government decision to stop the eradication program and what this may mean for Australian agriculture. It's almost time for the 2011 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, and we spoke to the Festival's CEO Natalie O'Brien about the highlights for this year. Scott Pickett also took time out from running the two-hat kitchen at The Point to discuss his events for the festival, and what it's like to run a restaurant surrounded by a grand prix. We also spoke to Adam Foster from Syrahmi Wines, and Mark O'Callaghan from Yarra Burn about the current vintage. The weather is seriously messing with the vines across Victoria, and most grapes will be out there for a few weeks yet. Some vineyards are so muddy they can't even get a tractor in... |
