A couple of weeks ago, we discovered to our utmost horror that our favourite BIG thing, the Big Penguin of Penguin (TAS), was reported to have asbestos flowing through its fibreglass veins. Is the rumour true? Have the good folk of Penguin gone fleeing to the hills for their lives? Stephen Bock, our very own Penguin correspondent, gives us the low-down on the apparent perils of our favourite marine icon.
The word of the week is 'malacology' - the study of molluscs. Rebecca van Gelderen is the Secretary of the Australasian Society of Malacology came in to talk about her group and their penchant for all things molluscan... And we were most honoured to be joined by Kelvin Thomson, Federal Member for Wills, who in his spare time is a fully fledged twitcher with a special passion for migrating coastal birds. We have a great chat with Kelvin about his early days as a field naturalist, and some of his concerns about where we're heading as a nation in looking after our most precious natural assets. |

With all the stresses involved of organising a smooth-running Christmas, if indeed such a thing exists, Gill's show this week comes along at just the right time. Tips on keeping it together, watching your consumption levels (with a few clues on how to figure out exactly how much wine you're allowed to drink before driving) and a few non-pharmacuticle calmatives to get you through the good and not so good of the silly season. Callers ring in with questions about nettle and dandelion teas during pregnancy for water retention, bad breath and body odour and severe acne breakouts and what they could be telling us about our body. We also hear about FebFast, similar to Det-Ox-Tober, where you can take a month off the booze after the silly season, get your mates to sponsor you and money raised gets channelled back into the Youth, Drug and Alcohol sector. As always, for further information about today's or previous shows, check www.healthtrip.blogspot.com |
