On today's show we had a quick market report from John at the Vic Market.

One of Melbourne's super-chefs Donovan Cooke joined us with Hillary McNevin to talk about his new book The Atlantic at Home. We spoke about his history as a chef, his initial memories of seafood as a child, working with Marco Pierre White, and his approach to cooking with various types of fish.

We finished the show enjoying a Knickerbocker cocktail courtesy of Sebastian Reaburn. Melbourne hosts the final of the Cricket World Cup today, and we'll bet you didn't know that the first ever tour of the English cricket team to Australia was bankrolled by Melbourne's famous Cafe de Paris. Commercialisation of sport has been around for a long time!

Drs Beach and Surf will be joined by Perran Cook (Monash Uni) to talk about worm holes – not the cosmological kind, but actual worm holes – and how, as Charlie Darwin suspected, they are really, really important in turning over stuff (chemical goodies) on land and sea. Then, in the lead up to the 53rd Bells Beach Surf Comp, we’ll yack to Bob Smith, archivist and historian for Rip Curl, and John Collins, who ran the competition in the 90's. We'll ponder the history of the longest running professional surf comp in Australia, if not the world, and find out just how much work is involved in organising it.

Dr Chromo and Dr Ray join Dr Shane in the studio.

In news: the jury is back in on homeopathy - it doesn’t work.
Australian science made it into Nature this week for not funding their scientific infrastructure. Time for science to fight back.

Today's guest is Emily Petroff from the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburn University. Emily works with telescopes and radio astronomy instrumentation to look for short timescale events in the radio sky, like pulsars; and a new type of object called fast radio bursts. Bright, single bursts that appear to originate billions of light years away.
