Our guest was Fleur Tynan, a graduate student from Monash University's Protein Crystallography Unit. Fleur described her amazing research that involves determining the 3D structure of proteins on the surface of the cells of our immune system. Knowing the structure of these proteins helps to determine how the immune system functions by interacting with invading viruses. Have you ever wondered how plasma TV screens work? Listen to find out. Other stories were: genome transplants, why deep voices are sexy, a gene for tree strength, and nano-sized tweezers.
